Is OCD Therapy Covered by OHIP?

Justin La Rose, RP, M.Psy·Focused Exclusively on OCD · 25+ Years in Mental Health · 100s of Clients

OHIP does not cover psychotherapy provided by Registered Psychotherapists or psychologists in private practice. But most extended health benefits plans through work or school do, and no referral is required.

OHIP only covers therapy delivered by physicians, including psychiatrists, and care within publicly funded hospital or community programs, which often involve long wait times and may not offer OCD-specialized ERP. Ontario's publicly funded Ontario Structured Psychotherapy program can be an option for some people with OCD, though access and specialization vary by region.

If you have workplace or student benefits, check your plan for “Registered Psychotherapist” coverage and your annual maximum. At The OCD Clinic, individual ERP sessions are $250, receipts are provided after every session for insurance submission, and the first 20-minute consultation is free.
