Is ERP Covered by Insurance in Ontario?

ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) for OCD is covered by most extended health benefits plans in Ontario when it is delivered by a Registered Psychotherapist, the same way any psychotherapy is covered. No referral is required to start.

It is not covered by OHIP, which only funds therapy delivered by physicians or within public hospital programs. Through workplace or student benefits, coverage typically ranges from $1,000 to $3,000 per year depending on your plan, and you submit receipts for reimbursement.

To confirm, check your benefits booklet for “Registered Psychotherapist” (RP) coverage and your annual maximum, and ask whether your plan reimburses RP services specifically. At The OCD Clinic, individual ERP sessions are $250, receipts are provided after every session, and the first 20-minute consultation is free.
